Agrarian dynamics in dryland regions : synergies and trade-offs in agro-sylvo-pastoral systems
Drylands (arid, semi-arid, and sub-humid) are home to complex agricultural systems, where societies balance competing or complementary land uses for crop cultivation, livestock raising, and forestry. The DYNAGRO conference aims to explore the resilience of these systems in the face of climatic, demographic, land-use, security, and geopolitical pressures; the tensions and trade-offs among stakeholders; as well as the adaptations, transitions, and transformations underway in these regions.
With an international scope, the conference places a special focus on the Sahel, while remaining open to all drylands around the world and dedicating a session to wetlands.
Conference themes
- New forms of integration between crop and livestock systems
- Multidimensional performance and robustness of agro-sylvo-pastoral production systems
- Complementarities and interdependencies bewteen urban and rural areas
- The water-energy-food nexus
- Exchanges between dryland and humid regions
The conference particularly promotes
- Inter- and transdicsiplinary, and participatory approaches
- Multi-speaker presentations (research, development, training)
- The role of women, young peoples and marginalized groups in the access and the management of productive resources
- Intergenerational transmission mechanisms
- Social and entreprenarial innovations
Submission guidelines
Authors are invited to indicate the main conference theme to which their contribution relates. On the basis of an extended abstract (two pages) submitted by prospective presenters, the scientific committee will contact the authors of selected proposals to offer one of the following formats: a long oral presentation (20 minutes), a short oral presentation (10 minutes), or a poster. Applicants may also choose to submit a poster proposal directly. Both French and English are accepted.
Some presenters will be invited after the event to submit a full-length article for a special issue of an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal.
